UPDATE on the Churchill Calgary statue project
On August 24, 2022, the Sir Winston Churchill Society of Calgary and the Province of Alberta announced the following:
A statue of Churchill, famed former British leader and statesman, will be placed on the south lawn of the government centre in Calgary. The Churchill statue was funded by the Society and will be loaned to the province. It was created to commemorate the wartime leader who marvelled at the vistas of southern Alberta, admired the province’s entrepreneurs, was supportive of Alberta’s growing oil industry, and whose inspirational leadership in defense of freedom and democracy was critical to a successful allied victory in the Second World War. The Society will also cover the costs for maintenance and upkeep of the statue. The unveiling is planned for Spring 2023.
Thank you to all the generous donors from Calgary, across Alberta, in the rest of Canada and also from the United Kingdom and the United States, The Sir Winston Churchill Society of Calgary has raised $307,000 for the Churchill statue, base and ongoing maintenance.
